Rdio Acquires TastemakerX, Adds Key Execs
Music streamer Rdio has aquired hipster music discovery and curation app, TastemakerX. Rdio will absorb the entire TastemakerX team, including CEO and co-founder, Marc Ruxin, and co-founder Sandro Pugilese. Ruxin will become COO and head Rdio's corporate marketing, ad sales, brand partnerships and business development.
No details of the deal were announced; and which TastemakerX features will make there way into Rdio is unclear.
Along with the TastemakerX team, Rdio has made two additional key hires. Jim Rondinell joins as SVP of Content Licensing and Catalog Acquisition. Mat Bates has been names Radio's head of radio and programming. He joins Rdio from Slacker.
Today's announcement follows Rdio's recent acquisition of Dhingana, one of the largest streaming music services in India and expansion into nine additional countries, making the service available in 60 countries. Rdio's multi-local strategy is delivered through strategic partnerships like Shaw in Canada, BAND in Brazil, and Cumulus in the U.S., among others.
