Will.i.am Admits Copyright Infringement On New Track [Listen & Decide]
Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas has been accused of copyright infringement after people noticed that the music in his collaboration Chris Brown "Let's Go" sounded like Russian DJs Arty and Mat Zo's track Rebound. Initially silent on the matter, Will.i.am, AKA William Adams, told Los Angeles radio station KIIS FM that he had based his song off of "Rebound."
"Arty is a dope producer, so I wrote this song to 'Rebound' this last year," Adams said. "I got in touch with Arty and showed it ( to) him, did a different version to it cause I asked him to make it newer 'cause I don't just wanna take your song and rap over it. But in a year's time, time's gone by, (and) we preferred writing over and using the (original) 'Rebound.'"
"I'm a fan of Arty. I think he's great and the world needs to know about how talented those guys are," Adams added. "It's sad that's turned into a fiasco." Some of the lyrics in the Will.i.am track seem to be borrowed as well, and are perhaps best described as an homage to the Jungle Brothers track "Because I Got It Like That."
