Vibe Sold To SpinMedia, Transition To Online-Only Likely
Print journalism takes another hit, as top urban music magazine VIBE and its related online properties, are sold to SpinMedia, a conglomerate of almost 50 music and entertainment sites.
A transition of VIBE to online only appears likely, as the purchasers, formerly know as Buzz Media, did when it bought Spin Magazine and shuttered it's print editions.
Details of the sale which includes vibe.com and vibevixen.com were not disclosed.
In a statement announcing the purchase, Stephen Hansen, SpinMedia CEO said:
“We’re on a mission to transform the native digital media model in our category and Vibe is an exciting addition to our family of owned and operated brands. Similar to SPIN, Vibe is a transformative force in the music landscape elevating and spotlighting urban culture.
It has evolved into one of the top
destinations for the new urban music landscape and nicely complements
our collection of genre-leading editorial communities and is an
important part of our future. All of us at SpinMedia look forward to
working with the Vibe team to take Vibe to the next level.”
