Invisible Instrument – An iPhone-Based Music Tool
At Music Hack Day NYC, Tim Soo won the top prize with his invisible instruments. Using the iPhone and Wii controller as a MIDI device, he is able to create music out of thin air. Thus far, a drum set, violin, cello, bass, keyboard, and guitar have been developed with many more coming soon. How soon? Soo is currently seeking funding via Kickstarter. Check out Soo's cover of "Just The Way You Are" by Bruno Mars and his pitch video below:
The Pitch:
Why does the article change his name from Soo to Woo…?
It's a typo. Thanks for catching.
Why imitate instruments that already exist, when you can create entirely new instruments with these same devices? Yes, its cool to make a guitar out of an iPhone and Wii-mote, but why not just play the guitar, which sounds better?
Mark, I think you are missing the point. As far as I can tell, this is meant not as a direct replacement for a guitar or any other instrument, but rather as a multi-instrument MIDI controller, which is AWESOME.
The pitch does not say that straight up, but it does hint towards it in certain parts, and that’s all that’s needed to get audiophiles like myself excited.
I just wish it was developed for the Android platform as well.
Well find me an android developer and we could make something happen!

Awesome instrument,
Soo Tim came up with the brilliant idea of combining the wireless controller with motion sensor Wii. I really love it.
