Our concept of what it means to play an instrument is evolving; as are notions what an instrument is and what it isn't. Below is a demonstration of Reactable Systems, a tabletop music making and computing device. The touchscreen interface allows users to manipulate sounds using screen icons or physical blocks. These types of tabletop computing applications are especially promising because their use can be highly participatory and collaborative in nature.
