Moby’s Top Selling Track Is Also The One That He’s Giving Away For Free
Still need proof of the power of free? Or maybe you just want to be sure it's not going to cannibalize your opportunity to make a little money? Wired Editor Chris Andersen's book Free: The Future of a Radical Price
comes out this week and the debate is certain to heat up. But in the meantime, here's a real would example: Moby wrote to Bob Lefsetz a couple of days ago to point out that his top selling track on iTunes is also the one he's giving away free.
How’s it going?
The album just came out and it would be #1 euro charts if not for michael jackson re-releases.
So that’s good.
But here’s something funny: the best selling itunes track is ’shot in the back of the head’.
Why is that funny?
Because its the track we’ve been giving away for free for the last 2 months and that we’re still givng away for free.
Odd.
How are you?
Moby
A related example is the film “Home” by Yann Arthus Bertrand (about environmental issues). It was released at the same time in movie theaters, on TV, on Youtube, etc. and it is the best-selling DVD at fnac.com (the online store which got the exclusive rights to sell it…)
